Scholar Project
The Scholar Project provides college preparatory advisor services to selected high school students who have demonstrated both academic aptitude and financial need.
Eligibility for the GFSF Scholar Project:- 1. Student must be a junior attending high school in West Contra Costa Unified School District
- 2. Student must have a grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher
- 3. GFSF follows the National Association for College Admission Counseling income guidelines to establish economic-need
The following pre-college services are provided during the scholar’s senior year of high school:
College Counseling Services: Professional college advisors evaluate the academic progress and test scores of each student and make recommendations for coursework, extra curricular activities and assist in compiling a list of colleges which best suit the student’s academic and personal profile.
Tutoring: Professional tutors work with the students to improve SAT scores. GFSF provides study materials as needed.
Pre-college Testing Fees: GFSF pays for up to three SAT or ACT exams, or facilitates the fee waiver application process.
College Application Services: Professional college counselors monitor the application process and offer feedback on essay ideas and application presentation.
Application Fees: GFSF pays application fees for up to eight college applications, including fees for transferring SAT and ACT scores, or facilitates the fee waiver application process.
Computers: Scholars who successfully complete program will receive a laptop computer upon graduation.
Mentoring: A GFSF Selection Committee member helps the parents and scholar during the college application process. This reaps an increased benefit for parents who are then able to better assist younger siblings as they also prepare for college.
